Falls Stand-Down Begins Monday

The 11th annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction takes place May 6-10. Part of the year-round Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction, the  has provided information and free materials to hundreds of thousands of people across the industry over the past decade. This year, 麻豆视频 would like to thank our  for helping to lead the way in Stand-Down participation and fall safety in the construction industry! New Data Bulletin Examines Trenching Injuries

In 2021 alone, 19 construction workers died while doing trenching or excavation work. During 2021 and 2022, 200 nonfatal trenching injuries were serious enough to force workers to take one or more days away from the job. The of 麻豆视频鈥檚 Data Bulletin, 鈥淭renching Injuries, Citations, and Penalties in Construction,鈥� examines fatal and nonfatal trenching injuries, as well as OSHA citations and penalties for violation of the federal trenching standard (OSHA CFR 1926 Subpart P). The construction industry accounted for 85% of fatal trenching injuries from 2011 to 2021 and 90% of nonfatal injuries from 2011 to 2022. From 2011 to 2023, approximately 3% of citations issued in construction were for violations of the federal trenching standard, with over half of these issued to companies in the Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction (NAICS 237) subsector.

Beyond Fall Prevention Planning: Being Prepared for Fall Rescue

Falls can occur in the blink of an eye, even when being careful and using proper fall prevention and protection methods. If a fall does occur and a worker is suspended in a harness for longer than a few minutes, a lack of circulation can lead to nausea, unconsciousness, suspension trauma, and even death. It鈥檚 critical to have a rescue plan that includes more than just calling 911 -- especially because of these time limitations.

As part of this year鈥檚 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, 麻豆视频, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are hosting this virtual event devoted to educating employers and crew leaders on how rescue planning can save lives. Attendees will learn more about identifying a competent person to lead fall prevention and rescue planning, incorporating key components of a rescue plan into the pre-job planning process, and using FREE resources and templates to tailor your plans to each unique jobsite.
