Construction continues to be one of the country’s most dangerous industries. Construction workers account for approximately 20% of fatal injuries, but only 7% of the workforce.
This dashboard, which originally accompanied Â鶹ÊÓƵ’sÌýMay 2022 Data Bulletin, examines fatal and nonfatal injuries in construction. This story-dashboard contains three sets of charts, navigated by clicking either the blue caption boxes or the arrows at the top of the dashboard. They examine:Ìý1) Fatal Injuries,Ìý2) Nonfatal Injuries,ÌýandÌý3) Injuries in Construction & Extraction Occupations.ÌýData are from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI), Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII), and the Current Population Survey (CPS). CFOI and SOII data were downloaded from BLS, and CPS was downloaded from IPUMS.
Information on specific charts and instructions for dashboard use are included in the information icon 
Ìýlocated to the right of each dashboard title. To get a full view of the dashboard on a mobile device, zoom out slightly and use landscape mode, which will provide a better navigation experience.
You can download the data as a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is color-coded for each set of charts, and each worksheet name is based on the corresponding dashboard chart.
The dashboard will be updated in Spring 2024. Beginning in 2022, BLS changed SOII data to be published every other year; nonfatal injury will be updated in 2024 to include information for 2022. If you have questions or comments, please email [email protected].
